Five favourites from the week when Madge stacked it

By Danielle on 27 February 2015

What a moment, what a week, and what a very short month. In what is set to become the most overused phrase from today, as IF February is almost over already?

Here’s five of our favourites from the week...

1. The Dom’Up Treehouse

A must-have for the avid tree camper, or, well, anybody really. Bruno de Grunne and architect Nicolas d’Ursel are the brilliant brains behind the Dom'Up Treehouse , which can be assembled without leaving any impact on the surrounding environment. If only every treehouse could be so flamboyant and environmentally friendly?

2. The sun sets on Mars

A chance to marvel at the sunset on Mars without having to commit the remainder of your existence to NASA’s Mars One mission mission. Using photos from the Opportunity rover in 2010, NASA created this short video showing just what happens when the sun sets on the red planet. Contrary to its namesake, nothing that red.

3. Madonna memes to make you ROFL

She’s been pulled on stage once before, and on Wednesday eve, she was pulled once again. The world sounded a collective gasp, before frantically taking to Twitter to post puns, memes and GIFs , of the jaw-dropping moment that Madge hit the floor. Good, speedy work all round.

4. 25 years of Photoshop

Let’s face it, Photoshop has had a bit of a bad rep over the years. If we’re not exposed to badly edited photos of celebrities with limbs that don’t match, their flawlessly airbrushed faces are plastered across buildings instead. But as the video shows, Photoshop is much more than an ego-massaging tool. This 60-second spot aired during Sunday’s Oscars ceremony and displayed just how pivotal the software is to the design, illustration and film industries. It’s also set to Aerosmith’s ‘Dream On’, which is excellent.

5. Gmail Emotional Labor

Why so serious? The Emotional Labor extension , created by researcher Joanne McNeil, scans your Gmail message for opportunities to add enthusiasm to your email, replacing those serious words with ‘playful’ alternatives for that personal touch. Try it out, loveys xoxo - but maybe not with clients, colleagues, or anybody who might have a smidgen of respect for you.
